Senior Veterinarian Maiken B. T. Bach

DVM

Senior veterinarian Maiken B. T. Bach, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Section for Surgery, Neurology and Cardiology, University of Copenhagen contributes to the Master programme with her knowledge in Clinical Cardiology.

Maiken graduated as a DVM from the University of Copenhagen in 2014, and did her Master’s thesis about the occurrence of myxomatous mitral valve disease in Cavalier King Charles spaniels with and without syringomyelia. 

Since then she has worked at a Swedish private practice referral center and done one year of a small animal rotating internship at the University of Copenhagen, before employment as a senior veterinarian in the Department of Cardiology at Copenhagen University Veterinary Teaching Hospital for Companion Animals. During her work in the cardiology clinic, she has gained knowledge within clinical cardiology, worked with interventional PDA closure, balloon valvuloplasty and participated in year round teaching activities of veterinary students and colleagues within clinical cardiology. She has further been a primary investigator of a GP-approved clinical treatment trial within Angiostrongylosis and is currently involved in several research projects e.g. clinical application of troponin as a prognostic biomarker in feline critical disease, advanced echocardiographic modalities in feline cardiomyopathies and screening of congenital and acquired heart diseases in dogs. 

Maiken's main research interests are clinical cardiology with advanced echocardiography modalities and cardiomyopathies in cats. 

Maiken will participate in the lecturing in the Internal Medicine module on the compulsory part of the Master's program.
